INTRODUCING: The Stat-Smith

Introducing the Stat-Smith;

Every week, David Smith will provide unusual, impressive, and sometimes obscure stats from the world of sport

Seeing Double

If you think you had a bad weekend, spare a thought for Lewis Kinsella, an Aston Villa defender, who was relegated twice on the same day.

The 21 year old is currently out on loan at Kidderminster Harriers, who were relegated from the National League on the same day as his parent club bowed out of the Premier League.

100 and Counting

Sergio Aguero has become the second fastest player in Premier League history to reach 100 league goals.

The Argentinian reached the milestone after his first half header against Newcastle on Tuesday. It took the 27-year-old just 147 games to reach 100 goals, and only Alan Shearer can boast a better return (100 goals in 124).

Empty Seats

Arsenal’s week could get worse after their insipid performance against Crystal Palace. The Gunners are struggling to sell tickets for this weekend’s home game against West Brom. Arsenal are reportedly expecting the lowest attendance since the club moved to the Emirates Stadium when they face the Baggies later this week.

Apparently the Emirates will be under capacity by 20,000 fans, which is a record low.

(No) Foul Play

Spurs boast the meanest defence in the Premier League, conceding a mere 25 goals so far this season.

Toby Alderweireld, the 27 year old Belgian international, has been key to their impressive defensive record.

Amazingly, the former Southampton centre half hasn’t committed a foul in 600 minutes of league action.

Road Warriors

Liverpool won 2-1 in Bournemouth on Sunday, and  became the first Premier League team to win away at 50 different grounds.

Arsenal sit in second place having won at 47 grounds, while Manchester United have won at 46.
